Welcombe Golf Course

Study General English in the morning and play golf in the afternoon - a great way to improve your English AND your Golf!

English and Golf is available throughout the year, start any Monday

You study General English lessons in a small group from Monday-Friday (15 hours’ tuition per week), and then after lunch you play Golf on 4 weekday afternoons -

  • either 18 holes with at least one playing partner chosen by the College
  • or a 1-hour golf lesson with a Club professional, followed by practice on the Practice Ground

.....you choose!

There are three excellent 18-hole golf courses very near the College – within a radius of 2 miles! Each course presents a challenge for golfers of all abilities and handicaps

  • Stratford-upon-Avon Golf Club (6,400-yards, par 72) is set in 150 acres of beautiful, flat parkland, just 300 metres or so from the College! The Club has an illustrious heritage - J. H. Taylor, who won the British Open championship five times, designed the course, and Samuel Ryder (of Ryder Cup fame) was Club Captain in 1929 and 1930.
  • Welcombe Golf Course (6,300 yards, par 70) is less than one mile from the College.  It is considered one of the best golf courses in the UK, with a superb clubhouse, golf shop, driving range and other facilities. The Golf Course is part of the Menzies Hotel complex, which dates back to 1866. The luxury hotel has an imposing Jacobean-style architecture and provides a spectacular backdrop to the golf course. Unlike the Stratford course, Welcombe Golf Course is quite hilly, and students often prefer to use a golf buggy to get around the course.
  • Ingon Manor Golf Club (6,600 yards, par 73) is next to the Welcombe Golf Course and has spectacular views over the Warwickshire countryside. Some of the holes on the course have a very evocative name, such as ‘Sky Larks’ and ‘Swan Lake’, names which reflect the natural beauty of the setting. Enjoy the view over Stratford-upon-Avon and the surrounding area from the tee on the 13th hole – ‘Top View’! The Club is also renowned for its United States Golf Association specification greens.

Each day, you will be accompanied to and from the golf course by College car - or if you prefer you can make you own way to the golf course. If you prefer to leave your golf equipment at the golf club, this can usually be arranged. Golf equipment can also be borrowed from the College.
